Vosges: Naga Mango

I’m kind of liking this Vosges review kick I’m on here. It almost makes up for missing their Michigan Avenue shop when I was in a meeting a mere mile away for two days. So let’s keep on going, continuing with these Vosges Naga Mango Bombalinas.

Now, the neat thing about this take on the Vosges Naga line is that it uses dark chocolate, so our vegan or otherwise dairy-free friends can enjoy it. And this time, it’s not just a bar. This time, that 62% cacao dark chocolate surrounds dried mango, and is dusted with curry powder, which adds visual interest to each piece.

The pieces aren’t Vosges best work, most notably because the mango is a bit tough.

A lot tough, actually. Tough enough that the chocolate breaks away from it, ruining the combination of chocolate, curry, and mango and forcing the consumer to eat it all in separate bits. That all said, the mango flavor is delightful – tart and sweet – it’s just that the texture makes it difficult to enjoy. It’s unfortunate, because the flavor combination has serious potential.

Have you ever eaten really tough dried fruit? What was it?

  1. I just learned that dark chocolate doesn't have dairy. My day is complete. I love mango, sad the bar broke apart. No really tough dried fruit is coming to mind, although dried fruit is helping me make it another 13 days without dessert.

  2. What a shame. Dried mango can either be wondrous, or.... fibrous, I guess.

And it's pricey, too. I can't think of any other dried fruit that's proven as tough as some of the mango I've bought. Still - sounds delicious.

  3. I don't think I'd ever try this... still a bit unsure about fruit and chocolate!

  4. I've noticed that some dried mango is really tough. It's a shame that they didn't find something softer for this because I love the idea. Dried mango coated in chili powder seems to be popular down here.
